Protecting your choice in collecting child support
The
National Coalition for Child Support Options (NCCSO)
is a coalition of parents, concerned citizens, community and
business leaders, attorneys, and members of the child support
enforcement community who have joined to fight the national
epidemic of unpaid child support.
By educating custodial parents about their child support enforcement
options and advocating that all options remain, NCCSO is leading the
charge for families to get the child support they have a right to.
Even as the crisis of uncollected child support continues to skyrocket,
special interest groups and certain government administrators are working
to actually block the options available to parents. They want to hold
parents to only one place to turn to for help in collecting their child support...
the government. Unfortunately, this "government-only" solution
often leaves children with NO support; custodial parents
with NO place to turn; and absent parents, who evade their
responsibilities with NO one to answer to. Click here to
learn what the magnitude of the problem is in your state.

"I am the custodial parent to my 11-year old daughter. My ex-husband is
taking me to court to decrease his child support payments. The last
payment I received from him was in July 2005, and prior to that it was
always sporadic. He is now remarried and has a 4 month old child. He
owes over $30,000 in arrears. I've been in court numerous times
and was able to hit him with a violation, which never works. . . It is not fair
that my daughter has to wait on her father's every word when he is going
to buy her something and only to be let down on his promises.
Is there really a way to get what is owed to my daughter? It goes around
in circles only leaving me paying the attorney and leaving me broke again."

"My
ex lives two minutes away from me, drives a great
car, and lives in a beautiful home. He doesn't
pay child support or even show up to court dates.
On top of it all, my state caseworker is useless.
She has not returned a phone call in several months.
After so much frustration, I have hired a private
company to try to collect the arrearage only.
Since I hired a private company, the state, even
though they're supposed to be helping me collect
current support, now won't work with me at all."
