The
Threat
By
misrepresenting the facts to discredit private child support
agencies, special interest groups and some government child
support officials are making sure that custodial parents
have NO place to turn other than the government
to collect their child support.
Instead of working together to solve this growing problem of unpaid child support,
a problem affecting millions of American families, some government enforcement
agencies and other special interest groups are wasting time fighting turf wars
which hurt us all.
For
example, if you are a parent in West Virginia, a newly passed
law, sponsored and supported by the West Virginia child support
agency itself, ensures that you have NO child
support options in that state. It even treats deadbeat parents
to special protection from tough enforcement efforts. So,
if the government enforcement agency in West Virginia fails
to help a parent obtain his/her child support, then there
is no other place for that parent to get effective help.
This new West Virginia law may as well be called "The Deadbeat Parent
Protection Act." Because of this new law, West Virginia parents have NO PLACE to
turn, while West Virginia deadbeats will have a safe haven in which to hide
from their child support obligations.
Unfortunately,
it’s not just West Virginia. Similar legislation also
passed last year in Connecticut and may be considered in
Virginia in the near future. In these states, government
child support enforcement officials worked to deny effective
enforcement options to parents in their states. You can help
to ensure that these types of "Deadbeat Parent Protection" laws
are not passed in Virginia or any other state.
