The Opposition

Several special interest groups claim to represent the interests of custodial parents needing help collecting their child support. The sad truth is that these groups are actually working to keep parents from getting effective enforcement assistance now.

Similarly, a number of government child support enforcement agencies and officials across the United States are interfering with parents' rights to use other enforcement options, including those of private enforcement agencies.

See our Hall of Shame containing some of the worst offenders.

"I think it’s important that every woman should have a right to choose which agency they want to collect the child support that is owed them. I find it disturbing that someone should decide for me which enforcement option would be best for my kids."

By refusing to cooperate with the parent who has chosen to use a private enforcement agency, threatening to close the parent's government enforcement case, trying to scare the parent by making untruthful accusations about the private enforcement agency, or passing legislation to ensure that the government is the parent's ONLY enforcement option….these special interest groups and non-cooperative government child support agencies are hurting families and denying parents the RIGHT to get effective help somewhere else.

Why do these special interest groups and government bureaucrats try so hard to keep parents from obtaining effective enforcement options? They must know the facts --- that $89 billion in child support is uncollected. They must know that fewer than half the government's cases ever receive any support. Unfortunately, these special interest groups and government bureaucrats care more about their own interests than they do about trying to get parents the help they need and deserve right now.
